Is Erector Set
still made?

YES — SURVIVES AS MECCANO

Confirmed through Meccano’s current product catalog and support pages. The construction system remains active, but buyers looking specifically for an Erector-branded box should treat that U.S. name as legacy rather than assume every current Meccano set uses it.

The short history

A. C. Gilbert introduced the Erector construction system in the United States in 1913, turning miniature girders, plates, wheels, nuts and bolts into bridges, cranes and machines. The Erector and Meccano histories later converged, and the present-day construction line is sold primarily as Meccano.

What survived

Perforated metal parts, nuts, bolts, real tools, mechanical models and rebuildable engineering play remain at the center of current Meccano sets.

What changed

Brand presentation, ownership, compatible hardware and set themes have changed; current Meccano Junior parts are not universally compatible with older Spin Master Junior hardware.

Current versions

Meccano’s current catalog includes metal engineering and robotics sets as well as a separate Junior line. A current 296-piece Innovation Set, for example, uses reusable parts and downloadable building instructions under license from Spin Master to Addo Play.

THE QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK

Erector Set FAQ

Is the Erector Set still made?

The metal construction system survives in current Meccano sets, but the exact Erector branding is not consistently used on today’s official line.

Are Meccano and Erector the same thing?

Their histories and ownership converged, and current Meccano is the closest official continuation of the familiar bolt-together system. That does not make every set or part identical.

Do new Meccano parts fit old Erector parts?

Do not assume full compatibility. Hardware, scales and Junior systems vary by era, and Meccano specifically notes incompatibility between some older and newer Junior screws and tools.
