The short history
G.I. Joe began in 1964, but the smaller A Real American Hero line launched in 1982 is the version many Xennials remember: articulated figures, elaborate vehicles, file cards and a sprawling battle against Cobra.
What survived
Named characters, military-fantasy styling, accessories and the conflict with Cobra preserve the remembered world.
What changed
The current Classified line uses a premium six-inch scale instead of the 3.75-inch A Real American Hero format many Xennials remember.
Current versions
Hasbro’s current Classified Series translates familiar characters into detailed six-inch figures with extensive articulation and accessories. New figures continued in Hasbro’s 2026 assortment.

Yes. Hasbro currently produces G.I. Joe products, led by the Classified Series.
Is G.I. Joe Classified the same size as the 1980s figures?
No. Classified figures are approximately six inches tall; the remembered A Real American Hero figures were about 3.75 inches.
Can Classified figures use vintage G.I. Joe vehicles?
Generally no. Their different scales make most vintage vehicles and playsets incompatible.
